Definitely not in the U.S. anymore.

Today I had my first experience with an ER. I got bit by a friend’s dog. Not mentioning any names, not necessary, she feels bad enough. The bite is not severe, but a Google search recommended seeing a doctor in any event; so I did. The amazing thing was the ER experience.

I called a taxi and just asked him to take me to the emergency clinic. He asked which one. I said I have no idea. I told him that I heard there was a clinic in town that was open 24 hours. So, he took me to what is known as the “public” clinic. He told me later he would never go there because you have to wait too long, but I was seen immediately. There was no one else there.

I simply cannot believe that the doctor visit was only $0.50, and the medicine $2.50. The guy who was checking me out, said, “Si, es Panamá.” Increíble!!

This one is for Mary. Remember I told you I have a long way to go with my calligraphy? This was my practice this morning. I met with my teacher. He said he loved the one that looks like a dog.

A Frustrating ‘D’ Day

  1. Wow. That is some bite and I see the bruising underneath. That’s got to be painful! Love the bill from the clinic. LOL

  2. I’d say you had a very good ER experience! I can’t believe the amount you had to pay! Hopefully, no more visits. Most ER’s here charge a facility charge just for sitting in the waiting room!

  3. Amazing ER story. Hope the bite wasn’t painful. Your experience illustrates the difference between a for profit system of health care run by insurance companies and a government run system where, I am quite sure, doctors are well paid, as they should be, but no huge corporate wealth is being created. If only we had such a system in the US. Sigh….

  4. I’m sorry you got bit! 😢 However, I love the play by play with the photos and you just always crack me up! And the price is incroyable!!

  5. Glad you did not suffer a serious dog bite injury Chris. Your photo shows a relaxed Chris!!! KW

    1. She is a mutt, a sort of Jack Russell mix. Yes, they gave me antibiotics for five days, as well as an antibiotic cream.

  6. Sorry you got bit, Chrissy. ER experience and expense was amazing. Mexico is similar. Visit would be $15 and meds another $5-10. Hope you heal quickly and completely.

    1. Yes, it’s healing. It’s achy. It left quite a large hematoma. The bite-down was apparently hard. I’m surprised she didn’t tear the flesh. I’m happy that I decided to go to the ER. Otherwise, I’d be worried right now.
